Understanding the Structural Drying Process With Jason Allred From SERVPRO of Grand Junction

After a water disaster, owners of both residential and commercial properties need a reliable partner in the restoration business. SERVPRO prides itself on offering customers the most highly qualified technicians in the water removal and drying industry. Jason Allred, Production Manager of SERVPRO of Grand Junction, helps those in need of water damage recovery understand how we accomplish the goals set during the drying process in this informative video.

Allred identifies air movers and dehumidifiers as two essential types of drying equipment used by professional water damage restorers. When water damage challenges customers, removing the moisture from saturated structural components is crucial. After pumps and extractors have eliminated the majority of the standing water and trapped reservoirs behind walls, under floors, and above ceilings, SERVPRO seeks to normalize moisture levels in building materials that absorbed water during the disaster.

Allred emphasizes that the air movers perform the initial step of drawing water from the wet materials into the air. Placed upon or near wet building components, heated air movers force the water molecules to leave the porous wood framing, drywall, flooring, ceilings, and other parts of a property’s structure as a vapor.

The water vapor thus created is then pulled through SERVPRO’s dehumidifiers. As it circulates through the machine, the action transforms the warm, humid air back to liquid water. As a fluid, the water is collected and then pumped out of the dehumidifier through a drainage system that deposits the water away from a home or business.

After the dehumidifier completes the work of removing the water vapor from the interior atmosphere, the dry, warm air is recirculated by the air movers. Allred explains that SERVPRO uses these processes to achieve the proper equilibrium among temperature, ambient humidity, and circulation to dry out a home business at a faster and more efficient rate.

Air movers and dehumidifiers are essential pieces of equipment, used by SERVPRO when completing water and flood damage restoration for both residential and commercial structures. Gaining a good understanding of their purposes helps customers grasp the fundamentals of structural drying.

The more knowledge SERVPRO of Grand Junction shares with customers about the equipment we use and the services we offer the more likely our partnerships after a disaster will be mutually beneficial. When faced with a water disaster, call to schedule an assessment at (970) 241-8181.
